Angling: The Old Hough open match was staged on Lower Benbo, Prospect and Lucky Dip lakes, where Lee Turner got stuck into the newly-stocked fish.

He opted for 4mm pellet at 13 metres in an outstanding 53lb 8oz net. Failsworth rod Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) was second on the day with a 52lb 2oz catch of carp taken on dobbed bread and later red maggot in deeper water.

GLORIOUS conditions greeted anglers for the penultimate round of the Matrix Halifax Pairs League on the Hebden Bridge lengths of the Rochdale Canal. On the same day, more than 170 runners took part in a canalathon between Manchester and Sowerby Bridge.

Whether all that commotion on the bank had an impact on the fishing it’s hard to say, but it certainly didn’t help.

The winner was Daz Kershaw (Matrix Halifax), who had seven quality roach on bread punch right across in the shallow water, followed by a solitary perch for a 4lb 2oz net.

Pairs partner Warren McLeavy (Tri-Cast Calder) was the runner-up, with two skimmers from the Moderna length on bread punch weighing in at 3lb 13oz.

The top pair were Daz Kershaw and Warren McLeavy, with two points, from Shaun Paddon

(Tri-Cast Rochdale) and myself into second place with six points.

With one match to go Kershaw and McLeavy are leading the way with 26 points, followed by Price and Jagger on 27.

Simon Walton is welcoming individual anglers to compete in the last of the pairs series of matches on Sunday. The draw time is 9am on Moderna bridge, with fishing from 10am to 3pm. Tickets are £13 all in.

GEOFF Dawson topped a frost-hit Medlock Bridge AC open on the Park Lake, with pole, tip and maggot tempting plenty of bits plus a few skimmers for 5lb 14oz. Next-best was veteran angler Peter Hill, who used tip and maggot tactics to attract a couple of f1s and a few smaller specimens for 4lb 8oz.

DAVE Wolstenholme took first place in the Twingates AC OAP’s match on the club water.
He opted for the pole and maggot at various lengths, which caught plenty of ide, roach and skimmers for 13lb 2oz. Tony Simcock followed his fourth-place in the Medlock open with runner-up spot here. Catching carp, skimmers and roach on the long pole and maggot, he weighed in a 12lb 9oz bag.

THERE were some big fields at Partridge lakes, and it’s no wonder as the water always produces some big weights. The winner of the latest match was Andy Bennett with 84lb 2oz of f1s and carp to around the 2lb mark. Oldham angler Mark Lucas (Mosella) had to settle for second place with 73lb 3oz.

JOHN MacDonald says Denshaw Vale is throwing some super nets of bream, carp and roach.

The water is owned by Cairo AC and memberships are available. For more details, call John on (0161) 6651779 or 07796 199421.

ENVIRONMENT Agency licences run out on Tuesday so, if you haven’t done it already, renew it now.
