NCL sides looking for lift-off

RUGBY: CAN the borough’s Kingstone Press National Conference League clubs end their barren run this weekend?

Oldham St Anne’s, Saddleworth Rangers and Waterhead Warriors have yet to break their duck this season after two attempts each, and all three are in action tomorrow.

Saints came agonisingly close last Saturday when a late penalty goal denied Mick Fogerty’s side against Stanley Rangers. Next they entertain Millom.

Waterhead coach Mick Slicker jnr must lift his players after they shipped 70 points against Division Three high-fliers Stanningley. That came after the Peach Road club had shown promise in a 36-16 defeat by Woolston Rovers. Waterhead’s challenge is to get the better of hosts Thornhill Trojans - who put up 44 points against Eastmoor Dragons last Saturday.

After a week off, Rangers should be refreshed for the visit of Shaw Cross Sharks to Shaw Hall Bank Road for a Division One encounter.

All matches kick-off at 2.30pm.
