GET BACK: Ben Whitehead, of Saddleworth Rangers, pushes away a Shaw Cross Sharks challenge.
RUGBY:
WATERHEAD Warriors gave leaders Thornhill Trojans an early scare in Division Three of the Kingstone Press National Conference League.
The Peach Road side had forged a 10-6 lead after 14 minutes, but that was as good as it got, for Warriors eventually lost 62-10. .
Saddleworth Rangers, like the Warriors, are still searching for their first victory of the season.
Visitors Shaw Cross Sharks won 32-12, with the damage done in the first 30 minutes of the clash.
Sharks raced into a 20 point lead, and Ben Whitehead put Rangers on the board a minute before the interval with two-pointer, adding a try 60 seconds after the restart to give Craig Farrimond’s side a glimmer of hope. Sharks reasserted their authority, and though Rangers had the last say with a late try and conversion, it was too little, too late.
OLDHAM St Anne’s and Millom were left kicking their heels after a waterlogged Higginshaw Road pitch put paid to the Division Two fixture.
