OLDHAM-born attacking midfield starlet Ryan Kent has received a double boost as he continues his career with Merseyside giants Liverpool.

The 18-year-old former Crompton House pupil, a staunch Athletic fan, returned from a frustrating spell out injured last week, just days after signing a new professional contract at Anfield in the presence of his proud parents.

It had been a disappointing period for Kent, who enjoyed a tremendous start to this season in both the UEFA Under-19s Champions League and in the Reds’ under-21s team, but he has spent months out with a troublesome back injury.

The timing was seen as particularly unfortunate because the pacy wide player had been attracting plenty of attention and potential loan deals were mentioned.

He signed his new contract, before days later returning to action for Liverpool as they lost 2-1 against Fulham, at Chester FC, in the Under-21s Premier League.

The Reds’ under-21 manager Michael Beale said: “Ryan is a really exciting player and can play in a number of positions.

“When he got injured we were devastated for him because at the time Ryan was getting quite a bit of interest in terms of going out on loan thanks to being a star player in the under-21s.”

Former Chaddy End player Kent has been at the Reds’ Kirkby Academy since the age of seven and has been capped by England at youth levels. He signed his first professional contract last year.
