Flying the flag for dedicated Darryl

GOLF: SADDLEWORTH Golf Club chairman Neil Bamford has saluted the hard work and dedication of head greenkeeper Darryl Smethurst, who has recently celebrated 25 years in the crucial role.
Bamford, fellow committee members and the rest of the green staff were on hand to present Smethurst with a glass decanter behalf of the club, and all his work colleagues felt that a contribution of a bottle of scotch whisky would be the ideal filler.
Bamford said: “The exceptionally high quality of the course at the moment is due in no small part to Darryl and his team of dedicated green staff.
“Come rain or shine, the course always looks in terrific shape.”
