NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: MOSSLEY won the Manchester Premier Cup for the third time in four years last night after beating Curzon Ashton 3-1 on penalties at Athletic’s Oldham ground.

The game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and headed straight into the shoot-out.

John Bennett had rifled home the first goal after just EIGHT seconds for the Lilywhites, before Jordan Wright levelled for Curzon in the 87th minute.

Mike Fish, Tom Pratt and Kyle McGonigle scored from the spot to seal Mossley’s cup glory.

It was a satisfying win for joint-boss Peter Band, who has ended a roller-coaster couple of weeks with a trophy

He said: “That makes up for missing out on the league play-offs,” he said. “We did it the hard way, but overall I thought we just about deserved to win over the 90 minutes.

“Curzon are third in the league above us, but if they thought we were going to roll over, they were mistaken. That’s not our attitude.”

Mossley’s last game of the season is at Ossett Albion on Saturday.

IT’S derby day at Seel Park tonight as Oldham Boro host Chadderton in the North-West Counties League First First Division (7.45pm).

Ahead of Saturday’s final round of fixtures for the season, Chaddy can crucially lift themselves back into the play-off positions with three points tonight, while a win for Boro would ease them off the bottom of the table for the first time since before Christmas.
