ANGLING: BILLY Brierley took top spot in the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake.

His 12lb 2oz catch included three f1s and two decent skimmers taken on pole and maggot. Tony Simcock (Tight Lines, Shaw) was second with his 7lb 10oz net, made up of a chub and a few f1s on the pole, before a switch to the tip brought him a big chub and f1.

BRIAN Meadows clinched first place in the latest of the TH open matches on the scrapyard length of the Ashton Canal. Fishing bread punch at various lengths, Meadows had plenty of bites from small roach which made up his 2lb 15oz net. Shaun Paddon (Tri-Cast Rochdale) was second, with bread punch fished over liquidised bread the method used for his 2lb 13oz catch.

THE midweek Old Hough Farm opens are proving so popular that the matches are being fished on several lakes. Because of this, the decision was made to just pay out the winner of each lake.

Steve Kendrick claimed tthe laurels on Prospect lake thanks to 41lb 12oz of newly-stocked f1s on pellet at 14 metres. Ken Mainwaring fished corn over micros to catch better carp for 30lb 10oz, while Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) topped the weights on Moses with 20lb 10oz of mirrors and common carp taken on dobbed corn fished into far bank reeds.

Weights were better at the weekend open match at Old Hough as Upper and Lower Benbo were the lakes used. Richard Bratt drew the favoured end peg, where he caught on 6mm pellets across for a match-winning 58lb 5oz. He just edged Lewis Breeze (Drennan NW) into second place as his 57lb 12oz net included some decent-sized carp taken on pellet across and down the nearside margins.

AN out-of-sorts Huddersfield Broad Canal greeted anglers in the first round of the Teams of Four Spring League — but Barnsley legend Keith Hobson found it to his liking. He netted himself first place with two chub and a bream taken on long pole and double caster for 12lb 8oz.

Teamwise, it was Bradford’s Tackle 2 U which took first place with 61 points, in front of Matrix Halifax Green’s 57 points – helped by Chadderton-based Martin Taylor.

PETER Cuniffe (Gilders) was first in the latest of the Twingate AC’s OAP’s match on the club water.

His peg four produced a winning 22lb 9oz of carp and silvers on caster fished long and short.

Cuniffe pushed Peter Hill into second with a similar catch that weighed in at 14lb 7oz.

DARREN Webb had a good day’s pleasure fishing on the Park Lake. A peg by the boathouse produced some decent f1s and skimmers on bread. A switch to maggot then brought him a run of small roach.
