Eight’s great as Brooks excels

BOWLS: TONGE made a great start to their Manchester Premier League season with an 11-3 (200-134) triumph at home to St Joseph’s, of Chorley.
The hosts boasted eight winners on the night, including a remarkable 21-1 scoreline in favour of Nicky Brooks.
Jimmy Derby (21-16), Matt Gillies (21-16), Darren Griffiths (21-19), Gary Smith (21-15), Donnie Wilkinson (21-9), Tommy Dobson (21-7) and Gary Ellis (21-9) were the other successful team members. Tonge visit Liverpool-outfit Richmond BC next Wednesday, in the second round of league matches.
FRIEZLAND Bowling Club are looking for entries for their Saddleworth Arts Festival open singles competition. Qualifiers take place on Sundays, May 24 and 31, with the finals on June 7. The total prize fund is £500, subject to entry.

Practice starts at 11.30am, strike-out noon.
A TOP-CLASS entry is expected for the one-day invitational event at St Andrew’s C&BC, Abinger Street, Burnley, BB10 3ED, on Monday, May 4 (start 10am). Spectators welcome.
