ROYTON booked a Lake Garage CLL Wood Cup first-round derby date with neighbours Crompton after easing to victory against Milnrow.

Royton took first knock yesterday and scored 196 for seven from their 50 overs. In reply Milnrow struggled to keep up the required run-rate before eventually slipping to 169 all out. Alan Durose took three wickets for 25 runs.

Denny Hulme’s men will now travel to Crompton for their first-round tie on May 31.

Werneth missed out on a potential trip to Heyside as they were well beaten at Monton and Weaste in their preliminary round tie.

Farooq Shafiq starred for Monton with a superb 105 as his side rattled up 329 for five batting first.

Paul Entwistle top scored for Werneth with 48 in a disappointing reply of 141.
