Keeping spirits high

RUGBY: Saddleworth Rangers coach Craig Farrimond is maintaining his players’ spirit as best he can.

The ailing outfit has lost all 10 league games so far and tomorrow plays host to fifth-placed Pilkington Recs (2.30pm).

Rangers only had 15 players for last week’s trip to the East coast to face Myton Warriors – including Farrimond and club chairman Shane Wilson.

The squad is large enough that Wilson shouldn’t be required, though the season’s stand-out performer Tom Dransfield is absent.

Farrimond said: “Some of the players work for themselves and summer is an important time of year for them. On top of that I’ve also got injuries to contend with. We’ve had a good chat and we know what needs to be done in the next three or four games. They are a good bunch and it’s a case of trying to keep them upbeat.”

Bottom-of-the-table Rangers need to break their duck, to instil belief that they can somehow get out of trouble. They have two games in hand over the three sides above them, but need to start winning soon.

WATERHEAD Warriors are gearing up for a big test in NCL Division Three. Hunslet Club Parkside are the hosts tomorrow, and they boast a perfect record of 10 wins out of 10. The Leeds outfit posses the division’s most potent attack and the meanest defence.

OLDHAM St Anne’s have no game this weekend in NCL Division Two.
