CRICKET: MOORSIDE players and supporters will be hoping the rain stays away tomorrow as their team have a great chance to zoom to the top of the SWB Commercials Saddleworth and District League first division.
Unbeaten in the league so far, Danny Anchor and his men head for Micklehurst knowing a maximum-points victory will see them leapfrog Saddleworth. The current leaders have a free weekend.
Moorside can be joined at the top by Glodwick on the same points in what is turning into a tight tussle for supremacy.
Glodwick are at home to Greenfield, but they are currently in a menacing fourth place and only 10 points adrift themselves. Austerlands are five points further back than that, and will fancy their chances against stuttering Wythenshawe at Nursery Fields.
At the wrong end of the first division table, the bottom two go head-to-head. South West Manchester host 13th-placed Friarmere at Ellesmere Road.
Tomorrow’s schedule is completed by two mid-table encounters, with Shaw hosting Droylsden and Stayley at home against Whalley Range. Sunday is another big day for Moorside, who will hope for good support at Turf Pit Lane as they host Liverpool Competition high-fliers Bootle in the LCB Cup third round.
