Twenty20 pain for Heyside, Royton
Date published: 06 July 2015
HEYSIDE and Royton are out of the JW Lees Bitter Tom Hardman Twenty20 Competition after quarter-final exits on Friday night.
Heyside suffered an agonising three-run defeat at Rochdale, who took first guard and made 140 for four, thanks mainly to professional Wensley Lansdale’s 77 off 55 balls. Scott Bloor bowled well for his two for 15 from four overs.
In reply, Heyside fell three runs short of their target for the loss of nine wickets. Opening batsman Ben Holt hit 52 from 44 balls, while paid man Shadley van Schalkwyk crashed 34 from 21, including four sixes. Tom Avery kept Heyside in check with three for 24.
Royton lost by 29 runs at Norden, who had Steve Pimm (50 not out) to thank for reaching a daunting 184 for eight at Woodhouse Lane.
Royton made a good fist of chasing down their lofty target, but at 155 for eight ran out of overs.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Heywood at Monton and Weaste and Walsden, who swatted aside Radcliffe at home.
