Crolla eyes huge contest with Flanagan

BOXING: CHADDERTON-based world title hopeful Anthony Crolla has admitted that an all-Manchester scrap with WBO lightweight belt holder Terry Flanagan could be on the cards if both men win their next bouts.

Crolla is waiting for confirmation of the date and venue for his WBA world title rematch with Darleys Perez – provisionally set for November 21 – following the controversial draw with the Colombian last month at the Manchester Arena.

Flanagan, meanwhile, defends his WBO strap against mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno at the Arena on October 10.

If both come through their fights, a derby set-to is potentially on the cards.

“It’s definitely a fight that could happen,” said Crolla. “I’m sure me and Terry are going to meet eventually if we keep on winning. More than anything, though, the rematch with Perez is the fight I want.

“I’m being given a second bite of the cherry and I’m desperate to win the world title this time around.”

Meanwhile, John Murray-trained, Delph-based rising star Andy Kremner is waiting patiently for his next appointment.

The welterweight prospect (22) is itching to get back into action after producing arguably his best professional performance so far last time out when he overwhelmed Jack ‘Thunder’ McCormack at Trafford Park’s Victoria Warehouse. It was a fifth straight victory for ‘Krem-de-la-Krem’ since joining the paid ranks.
