CRICKET: THE new Pennine Cricket League received a huge boost last night with the news that brewery JW Lees will sponsor the competition to the tune of £100,000 over the next four years

The league, an amalgamation of the Central Lancashire and Saddleworth and District leagues, gets under way in 2016.

Each year the Middleton-based family company will give £5,000 to the league, £10,000 in continued support of the Wood Cup and put £10,000 into a cricket development fund. The JW Lees name has been associated with the CLL for more than three decades.

GREENFIELD are hosting a four-team Twenty20 competition at their Ladhill Lane ground tomorrow.

The home team face Austerlands at 10.30, followed by Delph against Bury at 1.30pm. The final gets under way at 4.30pm.
