St Anne’s seeking some cheer

RUGBY: WITH two home games to finish the season, brothers Andy and Peter Deakin will be looking to give Oldham St Anne’s followers something to shout about.

The pair were given charge of first-team affairs at Higginshaw Road after Mick Worrall decided to step down.

Saints have endured a miserable season. After only one win in 16 matches they are well adrift at the bottom of Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Two. They even had to postpone two fixtures earlier in the campaign because players weren’t available.

“We’ve advertised for a new coach and it a case of now waiting for the applications,” said Saints secretary Barbara Henderson. “We need to regroup and hopefully then our fortunes will improve.”

Saints’ penultimate match of the season is against Dewsbury Celtic tomorrow.



SADDLEWORTH Rangers are doomed for the drop in NCL Division One. Craig Farrimond’s side are also at home tomorrow, with Milford Marlins heading to Shaw Hall Bank Road.

Rangers showed plenty of spirit against Myton Warriors last weekend — they trailed 22-6 at half-time before succumbing 44-24 — and Farrimond will look for a similar level of effort.



WATERHEAD Warriors, who sit fourth-bottom, wrap up their NCL Division Three season tomorrow with the visit of Woolston Rovers. Dave Orwell’s men will be aiming to ruin Rovers’ chance of finishing third in the table.
