Dominant Libs remain unbeaten

WHILE Springhead’s Manchester League stock rose this week (see separate story), it was a case of stock levels disappearing fast at Springhead Liberal Club on Sunday afternoon.
The football team celebrated an emphatic victory over High Crompton Victoria at Snipe Clough in the Oldham Sunday League David Giblin First Division. Libs ran out 4-0 winners to maintain their unbeaten start to the league campaign and leave manager Jimmy Smith a happy but philosophical, man.
Smith said: “We haven’t had the best past couple of seasons, but it’s been a case of so far, so good this time.
“It’s early days yet but, in true manager speak, we are taking one game at at time. It could have been more than four, but we missed a few chances.”
Nick Rowbottom’s 18-yard strike set Libs on their way close to the 20-minute mark, before Michael Garside’s close-range header made it 2-0 shortly after.
Ben Maher created an opening for Jamie Wilson to make it 3-0 with 15 minutes remaining to assert Libs’ overall authority. Roles were reversed for goal number four after 81 minutes as Maher latched on to Wilson’s pass to score with a cool finish.
And special praise, too, for match referee Jonathan Orley, who received a perfect 10 from each club for his performance.
