Well-i-Hole’s quick recovery

OFFICIALS at Saddleworth Cricket Club are confident the Boxing Day floods will cause no lasting damage.
The ground at Well-i-Hole was submerged after the River Tame broke its banks.
But while the water was two feet deep in places it soon drained to leave a lush-looking outfield.
“It will be fine,” said Saddleworth official Mike Ward. “I was going to cut it over Christmas but I don’t think I’ll bother now.
“The river came over the fields, on to the bowling green and tennis courts and then on to the ground.
“It’s done it on umpteen occasions before. The bowling green will take a little longer to dry out — perhaps a week or so — but it is nothing to worry about.”
