RUGBY: TWO youngsters from Oldham St Anne’s proved a cut above their rivals in the North-West Counties League.
Robert Charles (15) and Josh Gregory (13) picked up individual awards for their outstanding efforts for the Higginshaw Road outfit.
Stand-off Charles was the under-15s Division Two player of the year, while second-rower Gregory claimed the under-13s Division One accolade.
“Robert is a good leader on the field and has a fine kicking game,” said his dad Dave, a coach at Saints.
“It was Josh’s first season in rugby league. He’s strong and quite quick, and when he gets going he’s hard to stop. He has the potential to go a long way.”
It was the first time that the NWCL had introduced an individual awards system. Teams chose an opposition man of the match and the results were collated by the league.
As well as the league game, Robert is also a member of the Oldham under-16s side at Manor Park.
