IN-form Mossley are just two points shy of the Evo-Stik League Division One North play-off places after easing to a 2-0 victory at Prescot Cables.
The Lilywhites were rarely threatened by a struggling Cables side, which wasn’t helped by the loss of leading scorer Rob Doran to a red card midway through the second half.
The visitors took the lead in the 31st minute when Dave Short smashed into the roof of the net from 10 yards. The lead was doubled shortly after half-time when Tom Pratt clinically fired home a rebound.
Mossley are now eighth in the table thanks to a third win, two points behind fifth-placed Spennymoor Town.
They return to action tomorrow night at Seel Park, in a crucial re-arranged league fixture against fourth-placed Ossett Albion.
CHADDERTON’S woes in the North-West Counties League First Division continued as they lost 2-0 at Stockport Town. Nathan Neequaye (penalty) and Adam Kay struck for the hosts before half-time.
Chaddy, who have now lost three games without scoring, host top-of-the-table Barnton tomorrow night.
