Oldham turn on the taps!

OLDHAM Netball Club’s National Premier League side bounced back from defeat against The Downs by dismantling Team Bath 76-33.

Eager to put last week’s disappointing result behind them, Debbie Hallas’s side was quick out of the blocks, establishing a 6-1 lead with some fine through-court play by Maria McAndrew and Iona Darroch.

Kathryn Turner was an excellent link between the pair and shooter Amy Clinton, playing some easy pops into the youngster under the post.

The defensive unit of Suzy Armstrong, Emma Dovey and Gabby Marshall also worked well and the visitors struggled to create an opening. When they did, Armstrong and Dovey were putting an incredible amount of pressure on them, snapping up any stray passes or rebounds.

Such was their dominance, Oldham effectively won the game in the first quarter with a 29-6 lead.

Hallas shuffled her pack for the restart, with Jodie Gibson and Krista Enziano replacing McAndrew and Turner. The changes took a few moments to settle down, until turnovers from Dovey and Gibson re-ignited Oldham.

Leading 49-16 at half-time, Hallas decided to tinker again, with Abby Tyrrell, Taylor Cullen, McAndrew and Turner replacing Armstrong, Dovey, Marshall and Clinton.

The changes disrupted Oldham’s flow, but they still managed to increase their advantage to 61-24.

The hosts were better in the final quarter — Gibson, McAndrew and Turner had a well-earned rest — with Clinton and Enziano combining well.

Armstrong provided Oldham with plenty of turnovers and linked up with Tyrrell, for the first time at this level.
