Open and shut case for Ogden

ANGLING: SKIMMERS were the mainstay of catches in the latest Northern AA open on the Hopwood Arms length of the Rochdale Canal.

Geoff Ogden, of Tight Lines, Shaw, had the largest haul as, drawn on peg one, he used worm and maggot for half-a-dozen of the specimens. Ogden’s biggest skimmer weighed in at 2lb for a match-winning 5lb 14oz total. Dennis Hill (Northern AA) was the runner-up with 4lb 2oz 8drams of skimmers attracted by worm and caster.


PETER Cuniffe, of Tight Lines in Shaw, was an easy winner of the Twingates AC OAPs match on the club water. He opted for hemp and caster at nine metres for 19lb 12oz of carp and silvers. Peter Hill was some way adrift in second place on 6lb 5oz.



WEIGHTS were good in the latest Socials AC match on Tyle Lodge. Dave White emerged victorious with the long pole and maggot the method netting 24lb 10oz of roach, bream and chub. Steve Platts was just an ounce behind in second place with a 24lb 9oz catch, also falling to long pole and maggot.



SOCIALS AC are running a two-day charity match in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice. The matches are on June 18 and 19. The draw is at 9am, with fishing from 10am-3pm. Tickets are £25 all in.

IT was hard going in the Middlewich individual league match on the Trent and Mersey Canal, with weights lower than expected. Winner Chris Gorrell netted two big perch and a skimmer on lobworm down the track for 6lb. Organiser Simon Preece was second with 4lb 14oz of small roach and gudgeon on bread punch and squatt.
