WITH a bumper prize fund of £10,000, clubs have plenty to play for in the JW Lees Brewery Pennine Cricket League this summer.

The money has been divided between the various competitions, from first-team cricket through to the third XIs.

The league’s commercial and development sub-committee poured over the figures, before deciding where the substantial amount of cash should go.

Sponsors JW Lees have given the league £25,000 per year, of which £5,000 has gone towards its running costs and £10,000 put in the pot marked ‘development of the game’, with the remaining money earmarked for the prizes.

WINNERS

The winners of the first XI Premiership and the John Willie Lees Wood Cup will receive £700 and £750 respectively.

That is a sharp rise on last year when double heroes Norden picked up 250 (league) and 100 (Wood Cup) for their big efforts.

The commercial and development sub-committee breakdown for prize money –

£2,000 to junior section to use as they see fit. First XI Premiership winners £700; 2nd XI winners £350. First XI Championship winners £350; 2nd XI winners £175. Third XI winners £150. Tom Hardman T20 winners £500; runners-up £250; losing semi-finalists (each) £125. Third XI T20 winners £150; runners-up £75; losing semi-finalists £25 (each). JW Lees Wood Cup winners 750; runners-up 400; losing semi-finalists £200 (each); losing quarter-finalists £150 (each); first-round losers £100 (each); preliminary round losers £80 (each). Tanner Cup winners £300; runners-up £150. Burton Cup winners £300; runners-up £150. Moore Cup winners £200; runners-up £100.

The league have stressed that they will not be providing individual player trophies.

The £10,000 development fund will incorporate funds for club ‘starter kits’, which includes wickets, fielding circle markers and boundary markers, funding for umpires’ corporate dress.

The remaining monies will be made available to member clubs by way of small grants up to £250 per club, subject to filling in a grant application form.

These will be placed on the website.

DECISION

Meanwhile, a decision will be made at the June league meeting with regards to last weekend’s fixtures, which were called off by the league because of poor weather.

Clubs are faced with two options – rearrange the games for later in the season which would involve juggling the fixture programme, or deem all postponed matches as draws, with each team awarded two points.
