JW LEES Brewery Pennine Cricket League sides fared favourably as the LCB Knock-out Cup competition got under way.

Glodwick produced the stand-out result among our local sides in the first-round matches.

Up against Formby at Warren Lane, the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

However, they probably soon regretted the decision as they were bowled out for 150, inside 40 overs.

Chris Longley was the star with the ball, taking four wickets for just 28 runs from his eight overs allowance.

In reply, Glodwick didn't exactly sail home, eventually gaining themselves victory for the loss of eight wickets in 38.4 overs.

Opener Nigel Stock top-scored with 38, while Anees Ur-Rehman added a quickfire 30.

Glodwick's reward for disposing of the Merseysiders is a second-round trip to Fleetwood on June 12.

Elsewhere, Moorside got the better of Irlam in a rain-affected clash at Turf Pit Lane and will now travel to Norden in round two.

Taking first knock, Moorside racked up 168 for five from their reduced 35-over allocation.

Irlam never got going in their reply, eventually sliding to 83 all out.

Norden defeated Swinton Moorside comfortably at Woodhouse Lane.

The hosts scored 155 for eight in their 39 overs, before sending Swinton packing for only 72.

Saddleworth were sunk by Denton St Lawrence in another weather-affected match.

Replying to Saddleworth's 126 for six from 26 overs, the Saints eased to 128 for three inside 24 overs.

Greenfield lost a high-scoring encounter against Prestwich.

From their 34-over allocation, Prestwich reached 231 for nine.

In reply, Greenfield fell short, being bowled out for 206.

Monton and Weaste made very light work of Great Eccleston.

Eccleston batted first, but were bowled out for only 104.

Monton responded in a flash, losing no wickets on their way to victory in only 11.1 overs.

Monton will now head to Northern in the second round no doubt brimming with confidence.

At Austerlands, the hosts lost to Farnworth, who replied to a score of 136 for nine with 141 for eight.

Littleborough made progress as opponents Moorfield conceded their tie.
