Saints net late victory

A LAST-minute penalty from Matthew Whitehead handed Oldham St Anne's a dramatic 28-26 win at Gateshead Storm in the National Conference League Division Three.
The home side opened the scoring thanks to a brace from centre Morton Pederson-Scott, with stand-off Ryan Clarke adding a goal to the second touchdown.
Saints opened their account mid-way through the first half when Whitehead chipped to the corner for Darren Fletcher to squeeze in.
Gateshead, restored their 10-point advantage with a try for full-back Andy Morris.
Saints' Greg Worrall then out-jumped his opposite number for a try at the corner just before half-time.
Saints where level when Whitehead notched a superb converted try, but Cioele Celerion and winger Jack Munro hit back for Storm, with Clarke adding a conversion and a penalty to open up a 12-point lead.
Saints hooker Jonny Horton crossed, with Whitehead adding the goal, before Whitehead replicated his earlier score to stun the home side with another converted score.
With the clock ticking down, Whitehead decided to go for the two points from 35 metres out, and was successful, much to the delight of his father and coach Paul Ashton.
