HEYSIDE are up to second place in the JW Lees Brewery Pennine League Championship after thumping Oldham by 269 runs.

It was one way traffic at The Pollards as the hosts crashed to 38 all out, in reply to 307.

Danny Cashin was the chief destroyer with the ball, bagging a hat-trick in figures of seven for 27.

Ben Holt (96) and captain Ryan Barnes (95) just missed out on centuries in Heyside's innings of 37.

Shaw recorded their best league victory of the season so far, at home to Stayley.

The hosts were in trouble at 109 for five, but a key sixth-wicket stand of 95 between Juan-Jacques Strydom (72) and Graham Sinclair (27) helped lift the Holebottom Clough outfit to a more than respectable total of 205.

STRUCK

South African overseas amateur Strydom struck seven fours and four sixes in his 77-ball stay.

Stayley were dismissed for 126 in reply, with only Kenroy Williams (49) making an impression.

Professional Cephas Zhuwao, with five for 18, caused plenty of problems with the ball.

Friarmere had a big wobble, despite needing 82 to defeat Werneth at Slack Lane.

Ali Muzaffar hit 33 for the visitors as Adil Mustafa helped himself to five for 31. Atiq Ur Rehman and Afaq Ali Sartaj were the other wicket-takers.

Openers Bobby Khan (31) and skipper Sohail Mahmood (24) provided the platform for a comfortable victory, only for a late crash of wickets to set hearts racing in the Friarmere dressing room.

Andy Walker claimed four for 17 and paid man Azam Hussain three for 29.

With pro Rudi Second contributing an excellent 118 and Rob Wilman 47, leaders Milnrow defeated Micklehurst by 116 runs at Ladyhouse.

Set the tough task of chasing down 275, the visitors were bowled out for 159.

SKITTLE

Imran Khan's five for 48 helped Moorside skittle Hollinwood for 144 at Turf Pit Lane.

With paid man Grant Hodnett sidelined because of injury, the hosts called on Agha Salman, and the Pakistani scored 23 in reply.

Rick Harrington added 49 at the top of the order, but it was Khan (27) and Richard Baines (34) who steered Moorside home in the 28th over with unbeaten knocks.

Girvacques De Jager's efforts with bat and ball were in vain as Uppermill lost by 34 runs against Ashton at Leefields.

The overseas amateur, from South Africa, took four for 68 in the visitors' total of 246 for nine. Pro Chamikara Edirisinghe led the way with a fine 87, which included 11 fours.

De Jager then hit 48, before becoming one of Bradley Woolley's six victims for 57 runs.
