Muirhead to return?

GREENFIELD supporters will get their final chance to see popular Aussie pro James Muirhead in action this weekend - but he may return to the Ladhill Lane club.

Muirhead (23) has proved a huge success at Greenfield this term, his first stint on English soil.

His tricky off-spin has returned him in excess of 40 wickets in the Pennine League top flight, a season which has seen the club consolidate their position in mid-table.

Now set to be recalled by Victoria for pre-season training Down Under - Muirhead leaves for home on Monday - the full Twenty20 international has certainly left his mark.

Greenfield skipper Chris Gill said: "James has done really well this year.

"It's been a positive that his mate, Alex Bychkov, is our overseas amateur. They get on well together and it's been good for both of them being at the same club.

"The weather hasn't really helped at times, but James has still taken plenty of wickets and chipped in with a few runs.

"I'm not sure about his exact situation over in Victoria, but they're gearing up for pre-season now and it's a busy time.

"We would like to see him back with us, possibly next season, but no decision has been made on that yet.

"There will be the visa situation to discuss so we'll look at that at the end of the season."

Muirhead will make his final appearance of the season for Greenfield in their league match at fellow mid-table side Monton and Weaste on Saturday.

After he departs, league rules stipulate that Greenfield must appoint a deputy pro.

Gill added: "At present we're looking at who is available to fill in as a pro.

"We've got people lined up for our Sunday games, but it is proving difficult fixing players up for Saturdays."
