ROYTON Road Runners claimed a big haul of prizes in the Prudent Riverside 10 Mile Road Race in Lancaster.

Although Royton missed out on the individual race victories - in the absence of Rob James and with Jen Bloor up against a very quick Rachel Jones (Salford Harriers) who finished fifth overall - the club still took most of the other awards.

Shane Reading (1:02:09) was the first Royton athlete to finish and first V40, Bloor (1:07:56) was second female, Bernie Goodwin first V45 (1:07:04), Kirsty White first FV40 (1:10:15), Debbie Shaw first FV50 (1:13:54), and David Emanuel first V50 (1:05:10).

The club also won both team prizes, with Bloor and White joined by Janet Jobey (an excellent 1:12:42) to win the women's race and Rob Fairbanks (1:04:45) completing the victorious men's trio alongside Reading and Emanuel.

This was a return to a race which - as the 'Wagon & Horses 10' - was part of Royton's club championship in 2005 and 2006.

With the threatened gale-force winds staying further north, conditions were quite good for the 47 locals whose times included:

Amanda Lane (1:52:04), June Allingan (second FV70, 1:48:21), Sharon Dracup (1:47:27), Natalie Yates-Bolton (1:46:04first club race of year), Sarah Butler (1:43:13), Jenny O'Callaghan (1:42:03 in her first ever 10-mile race), Paul Craddock (1:38:31), Jillian Heywood (1:35:49), Simon Howard (1:35:21), Adrian Bowcock (1:33:55), Chloe Clegg (1:30:40), Lisa Howarth (1:30:39), Sue Heaney (1:30:14), Margaret Bluer (second FV55, 1:27:24), David Watt (1:27:01), Adam Stirling (1:23:18), Selina McLean (1:22:17), Becky Mercer (1:20:41), Stewart Jones (1:19:32), Damian Mercer (1:19:11), Garry Bower (1:19:06), Steve Shaw (1:18:31), Ronnie Quinn (third V60, 1:17:41), Neil Farrell (1:17:40), Rochelle Evans (1:17:38), Val Kilburn (third FV45, 1:15:32), Michael Wildbore (1:14:47), Lee Higginbottom (1:13:28), Rob Marsden (1:12:11), Matt Kilburn (third V45, 1:12:05), Andy Schofield (second V45, 1:11:29), Eamonn Nolan (1:11:11), Carl O'Callaghan (1:09:45 25th club race), Elliot Stone (1:09:23), Mark Wilde (1:08:59, 25th appearance), Ian Dale (1:07:35), Owen Flage (1:07:07), Nick Cuff (1:06:42) and Neil Brock (second V50, 1:05:28).
