Janet storms to four-shot win

JANET Thorpe swept aside her rivals to claim the Lady Captain's Prize at Oldham.

She opened up with a nett 67 and followed it up by shooting a 71 for a two-round total of 138.

That was four shots better off than runner-up Linda Hall, who carded two 71s for 142.

Chris Peirson returned the best gross of 84+86=170, on the card from Lynn Kershaw.

Kershaw bagged the first day prize with a nett 68, while the second-day prize which doubled up as the Bunty Booth qualifier went to Jill Nolan (nett 70).

Florence Jacks won the subsidiary and Jane Antrobus the sweep (74+71=145).

Meanwhile, Marianne Pickford registered 33 points to clinch the Lady Captain's Charity competition at Werneth.

The runner up was Steph Banks with 32 points, while the nine-hole prize went Sylvia Dempster.

Werneth lady captain Tracey Rowbotham has so far raised £250 for the charity of her choice ­- guide dogs.

At Blackley, the club champion for 2016 is Helen Sloan.

She finished second in 'Mrs Captain's Final', on a card play-off from Alison Chesters (70), with Debbie Barber (72) in third place.
