Barnes and Bloor see Heyside home

HEYSIDE and Milnrow are locked together at the JW Lees Brewery Championship table.

The former were steered home by skipper Ryan Barnes' unbeaten 79 as they defeated Werneth by six wickets at The Coppice.

The hosts were dismissed for 183, with Scott Bloor bagging four for 27.

Heyside were 46 for three in reply, until a 116-run partnership between Barnes and Bloor (46) guided them to the verge of victory.

Stayley's title hopes suffered a setback at Ashton who, requiring 78 for victory, scraped home by two wickets.

Richard Harrington had a good day for Moorside in the defeat of Oldham at The Pollards.

He took six for 17 as the home side were shot out for 55 and then finished unbeaten on 36. Imran Osman Khan claimed the three Moorside wickets to fall.

West Indian Test player Tino Best had a stint playing in the Central Lancashire League some years ago.

On Saturday, the 35-year-old claimed six for 36 as promotion-chasing Milnrow's deputy professional in a five-wicket success over Shaw at Holebottom Clough.

Uppermill's Girvacques De Jager took a liking to the Hollinwood bowlers, smashing 98 from 41 balls, which included 34 from one over!

The overseas amateur lifted his side to 274 for four declared in 44.1 overs.

Hollinwood, chasing a revised target of 186 from 23 overs after rain, managed 92 for the loss of five wickets.

Fiarmere's match at home to Micklehurst was abandoned in the first innings, after Jake Caudwell slipped and injured himself while he ran in to bowl.

The hosts were 127 for six, with 36 overs gone.
