Doidge inspired by Augusta journey

GOLF: A TRIP to the Masters at Augusta proved enough to inspire Tony Doidge to win the first major of the new season at Werneth, the Spring Eclectic Trophy.

Doidge, who was in the USA working with Global Premier Sports, a golf management company, returned home to fire an impressive 73-10-63 which included being only one-over gross at the turn.

He pipped Alan McMunn (75-12-63) on a card play-off for the trophy with Clint Shaw (69-6-63) also edged out.


JANE Clark scored 36 points to win a two-ball Stableford competition at Werneth Golf Club.
First division winner was Joan Swindells with 34 points, ahead of Marilyn Griffin (27).

Sheila Lee was the second division winner with 35 points, followed by Christine Moon (33).

The club’s first EWGA medal of the season was won by Pat Grant with 96-26-70.

First division honours went to Brenda Martin with (97-24-73), and it was a tie for the runner-up spot between Brenda Jarvis (99-25-74) and Joan Swindells (95-21-74).

First place in the second division went to Glynis Jones (100-29-71), from Sheila Lees (103-31-72).
