Wrap up warm ahead of the bitter cold snap this week
Oldhamers are being warned again to expect bitter temperatures and snow as the 'Best from the East' icy blast from Siberia hits the borough.
Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday, accompanied by very low temperatures.
Heavy snow showers are expected on Wednesday.
Travel delays on roads are likely, stranding some vehicles and passengers, while some delays and cancellations to rail and air travel are likely.
There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off.
Power cuts are likely and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.
The Met Office have issued a Level 3 Cold Weather Alert for this week.
This is one short of a National Emergency.
Daytime highs will struggle above freezing and are expected to remain below freezing on Wednesday and Thursday at least.
There will be hard penetrating frosts all week with lows down to -7°C, and -10°C in rural spots, especially over snow-cover.
All week the wind-chill will be sub-zero and midweek it is likely to start to feel like -12°C or lower.
