Investigation launched following Freehold Metrolink stop attack

Police in Oldham have launched an investigation, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward, after a man was assaulted by a gang of youths while waiting at Freehold Metrolink stop.
It’s claimed the man, thought to be in his 50s, was attacked at Freehold in Chadderton at around 9.50pm on Thursday, March 8.
It’s been reported witnesses claim the attackers were a group of youths who repeatedly stamped, punched and kicked the man while he was laying on the floor.
One passenger managed to raise the alarm by pulling the emergency cord on the tram in a bid to get help for the man.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police have said: “At 9.50pm on Thursday March 8, 2018, police were called to Freehold Metrolink Stop on Block Lane, Chadderton, to reports that a man had been assaulted by a group of men.
“The men fled prior to police arrival and enquiries are ongoing.”
