Duo sought after Chadderton armed robbery

An armed robbery took place at the Co-op on Cathedral Road

A knife and taser wielding duo threatened staff during a robbery in Chadderton.

Shortly before 6.55am on Friday. March 9, police were called to reports of an armed robbery at the Co-op on Cathedral Road.

Two men armed with a knife and a taser entered the store as it was opening and threatened three members of staff.

The robbers then forced the employees to the back of the store while demanding money.

They fled on foot with a quantity of cash in the direction of Chichester Crescent before getting in to a silver Volkswagen Golf on Selby Avenue.

No-one was injured during this robbery.

One offender has been described as white, in his early 20s, of slim build and approximately 6ft tall. He was wearing black clothing with boots.

The other offender has been described as white, in his early 20s, of medium build and approximately 6ft tall. He was wearing a padded vest over a black jumper with navy blue cargo pants and black and dark grey trainers.

Both men wore balaclavas and spoke with strong local Manchester accents.

Detective Constable Zahir Hussain, of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “It is appalling that these men armed themselves with weapons to inflict fear on the staff who were just trying to do their job.

“No-one should be made to fear for their life whilst at work and this could have had awful consequences.
