Oldham to receive funding boost towards road repairs

In Oldham, the local authority is set to receive an additional £269,365 to tackle the issue of potholes on the roads.
Oldham Council have been handed a lifeline in their bid to improve the borough's roads with new funding from central government as part of a larger pot for Greater Manchester as a whole.
In total almost £3 million pounds will be heading to the region.
However, less than £300,000 will be heading our way.
It’s all part of around £100 million announced by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling in a bid to treat road surfaces which have suffered following the arrival of the ‘Beast from the East’ and other cold weather.
However, it’s not yet known how much of an impact this money will make on roads which have been battered by the cold weather and a number of years of underfunding.
Last week a report found a fifth of local routes in England and Wales are in a poor condition and warned councils face a funding problem to maintain carriageways.
In Oldham, the local authority is set to receive an additional £269,365 to tackle the issue of potholes on the roads.
Rochdale Council can expect £247,494, while in Tameside councillors will be able to spend an extra £228,036 on the area's road network.
