Students were attacked with a claw hammer

More details have emerged about an attack on two students as they walked near a Metrolink station in Oldham during the early hours of last Saturday morning (March 24).

The pair had called for a takeaway before making their way to King Street Metrolink stop when they were approached by a gang of three or four men.

The gang then attacked the victims, who are both 20, punching and stomping on them while beating them with a claw hammer.

Neither of the two students suffered any serious injuries during the incident, though both are reported to have been left shaken by the assault.

It marks the third such attack at a Metrolink stop in Oldham in the month of March after a 49-year old man was beaten in what police have described as an attempted murder incident at Freehold Station in Chadderton.

The victim was left with a bleed on the brain and a serious injury to his left eye after being kicked in the head over a hundred times, however he has since been released from hospital.

Three 15-year olds have been charged with attempted murder in connection with that incident and have appeared before Magistrates in Tameside.

In another attack a man was dragged from his car at Derker Station and beaten with a hammer.

Officers have said they don’t believe the three incidents are connected.

However, they are continuing to investigate them to try and find those responsible.

In the latest attack at King Street Metrolink stop, police have said they’re looking for a group of men aged in their late teens or early 20s, Asian, clean shaven and wearing black clothing.
