Fourth teenager charged in connection with Freehold Metrolink stop attack

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a man at Freehold Metrolink stop in Chadderton have charged a fourth teenager in connection with the incident.

The 16-year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faces a charge of attempted murder.

He’s been remanded in custody to appear at Tameside Magistrates’ Court today (March 31).

It’s in connection with an incident on the platform of Freehold Metrolink stop at around 9.50pm on Thursday, March 8 when police were called to reports that a man had been attacked by a group of men.

When they arrived, they found the 49-year old victim had suffered a serious injury to his left eye, he was rushed to hospital where it was discovered he’d also suffered a bleed on the brain.

He was released from hospital days later.

On Tuesday, March 27, two 15-year old boys were charged with attempted murder, section 18 assault and attempted section 18 assault.

Another 15-year old was also charged with section 18 assault and attempted section 18 assault.
