Oldham Police have launched an investigation after a robber threatened staff with an empty glass bottle and demanded cash from the till.
Shortly before 6pm on Easter Sunday (April 1) the man is understood to have entered McColl’s on Oldham Road in Failsworth and started to shop for groceries.
He was seen putting items into a basket and appeared to wait for other shoppers to leave before approaching the tills.
As the female member of staff was scanning his items, he pulled out an empty glass bottle and threatened her with it unless she gave him the money from the till.
The woman refused and police say a struggle started with the member of staff stopping him from getting money.
However, the offender managed to smash open the till and made off with a quantity of cash.
Officers have described the man they’re looking for as white, aged between 30-35 years old and between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins tall.
He is said to have red hair and was wearing a black North Face puffer jacket, blue jeans and Adidas trainers.
Anyone with information about what happened or can help police with their investigation is being urged to contact officers on 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
