Turning Point to launch new Oldham Active Recovery site

ROAR, Rochdale and Oldham Active Recovery, is set to be launched by social enterprise Turning Point, to support adults with drug and alcohol problems.

Turning Point will provide a range of interventions to support all aspects of problematic drug and alcohol use including medical support.

Turning Point has over 50 years’ experience in supporting people with drug and alcohol problems.

The main sites will be in Oldham (5, Greaves Street) and Rochdale (13, St Chads Court).

The new integrated substance misuse support service will operate across both boroughs, aiming to improve recovery rates and respond to changing local drug and alcohol trends.

Services will continue to be provided from a range of locations in Rochdale and Oldham.

Charity Groundworks is also providing a dedicated employment coach.

Gill Campbell, Head of Operations North-West at Turning Point, said: “Turning Point is looking forward to delivering a high quality service for the residents of Oldham and Rochdale.

“We will continue to provide medical, social and psychological support while providing innovative packages of care for our service users and their families to support their long term recovery."

Katrina Stephens, Director of Public Health in Oldham, said: “The joint commission of a substance misuse service is yet another example of cooperative working.

"This collaboration between Oldham and Rochdale Councils will allow both local authorities to share resources, knowledge and skills, drawing on each other’s successes.

“The new contract will focus on maintaining the already high quality provision, for now and the future, ensuring that both councils are fulfilling their duty in reducing health inequalities and improving the health of the local population.

“This new service will allow people from Oldham and Rochdale to access treatment from locations in either borough.

"It will enable people to make positive changes to their lives and support them to move towards a life free from dependency.

"Support available will include support to sustain stable housing and employment”
