Cafe boss's disappointment at council's 'damaging publication'

Date published: 11 April 2018

Mike Cattlin, from the Blue Onion cafe on Henshaw Street, Oldham, has spoken of his disgust at the contents of a press release from Oldham Council, one which he says makes claims of the family business having ‘mice infestation, no hot water at a hand wash basin and no food safety management system.’

Speaking to Revolution 96.2, Mr Cattlin claims the publication of the three statements could be interpreted as a successful prosecution.

However, Mr Cattlin strongly denies any prosecution, charges or fines in relation to the above statements.

Mr. Cattlin also has all relevant paperwork, including documents from his own solicitor confirming that a representative for Oldham Council, David Joy, dropped the alleged allegations mentioned above, prior to any court appearance.

Mr Cattlin did admit one count of having inadequate pest control under and was fined £165, plus a £30 victim surcharge and £1,100 costs on March 8.

In response, Oldham Council have told Revolution 96.2 they stick by the contents of their original press release.

Although Oldham Council have now removed their published press release from the website (article 1499), Mr. Cattlin says the damage has already had a negative impact.

Speaking to Revolution News, Mr Cattlin said: “We are a family business with over 20 years of successful trading.

"We are very lucky to have many many customers whom we now consider to be friends and their loyalty and belief in us will conquer."
