Sacked shadow cabinet MP Abrahams denies bullying allegations again

Oldham East and Saddleworth's Labour MP Debbie Abrahams began life as a back bencher today (Wednesday) after she was sacked from Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet amid allegations of workplace bullying.

Mrs Abrahams was previously suspended from her role as Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary over the allegations that she had been bullying members of her team.

However, Mrs Abrahams has repeated her denial of the allegations.

A statement from her office read: "I strongly refute the allegations of bullying made against me.

"I believe the investigation was not thorough, fair or independent.

“I will continue to represent the people of Oldham East and Saddleworth, and to hold this Government to account, from the back benches.”

In a statement issued last night, the Labour Party claim her dismissal comes as a result of a “thorough investigation” into the claims and it has referred Mrs Abrahams - who was first elected to the seat back in 2011 - to the disputes panel of the ruling National Executive Committee.

Labour's statement added that Mrs Abrahams had been “relieved of her post as Shadow work and pensions secretary”.

Margaret Greenwood, who took over the role of Shadow work and pensions secretary while Mrs Abrahams was investigated, will continue in the role.
