A trainee bricklayer from Moorside has been left in a serious condition in hospital having suffered a shocking head injury and a bleed on the brain after allegedly being attacked in Tameside.

Ryan Baxter was in Stalybridge celebrating his 21st birthday with friends on Saturday (May 26) when the night turned to a nightmare.

Now his family have taken to Facebook in a bid to try and track down those responsible and revealed a shocking picture of the damage done to Ryan’s head, which will mean he’ll be scared for life.

The image, which is below, shows Ryan with a major cut to his head being held together with dozens of staples.

Writing on social media, his brother David Baxter has described the 21-year old as “about 6ft 2 tall but wouldn’t harm a fly.”

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they were called to Stalybridge Town Centre at around 2.50am on Sunday (May 27) to reports from the fire service that a man had collapsed on Market Street.

“The man was taken to hospital, where he remains for treatment to a serious head injury.”

Officers say they’re investigating the incident as an assault.

Ryan’s brother, David, continued: “My brother was in Lions Bar, Stalybridge on Saturday evening.

"He was found unconscious in the street.

“The attack has left him with a bleed on his brain and he’s just come out of surgery.

"I am asking did anyone witness the attack?"

Ryan’s sister, Jo Rutter, posted a similar statement on Facebook, while his girlfriend, Georgina Moran, said: “Anyone who was out that night please get in contact. Saturday night!

"It happened and it was Ryan Baxter who got attacked! Stalybridge he’s lucky to be alive.”

Paramedics rushed Ryan to Tameside Hospital following the alleged attack and he was later transferred to Salford Royal for urgent surgery.

It is understood Ryan is now out of critical care but he has been left with a large scar on his head which will never completely disappear.

Anyone with information about what happened is being urged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101.
