Can you 'Dance the Distance' for Pippa?

Date published: 06 June 2018

Women from Oldham and Rochdale are coming together to dance the distance in aid of an eight-year-old Oldham girl who is in need of a kidney transplant.

Pippa Tierney suffered from renal cancer, which often affects those under the age of seven – and now has to have regular dialysis three times a week at the Royal Children's Hospital in Manchester.

Putting on the 'Dance the Distance' 5K event is local fitness Instructor Karen Austin, from Topaz Fitness Academy.

She’s hoping to raise £1,000 at the event on June 25, which takes place at the Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College in Rochdale.

Karen said: “Pippa’s mum Nicky comes to my classes and after hearing about her daughter’s story I asked if there was anything we could do to raise awareness.

"She told me about the Kidneys for Life charity and I knew I wanted to help.

“Even though we are not dancers we do like to think we can shake some moves on the dance floor and go the distance.

"We love our fitness and dancing 5K rather than running it suits us down to the ground.

"We’re all women who love to have a good time and get fit so this is perfect.

“It’s more fun than a run."

Karen is now inviting local women and children over 14 years old to come down and take part from 7pm.

“If you would like more information about the event which promises glow sticks, cheesy music, floor fillers and lots of fun all while raising money for a very good cause, then grab your ticket and we’ll see you on the dance-floor,“ said Karen.
