One of the region’s top adoption agencies is celebrating its eight month of finding families for local ‘looked after’ children with a fresh call for more adopters.

Since its launch in November, 2017, Adoption Now has found families for a total of 80 children but there are still others waiting to be adopted.

Another 80 children, from a wide variety of backgrounds, age groups and all with different needs, are currently waiting for a family.

Unfortunately, some of the children can wait longer than others for families to adopt them, such as those with additional needs, older children, sibling groups and children from some ethnic minority backgrounds.

Almost half of the children currently waiting for families need to be adopted with their brothers or sisters, a third are aged five to eight years old and it is estimated that around half of these children will have some additional needs whether that be emotional relating to their early childhood experiences or relating to a medical condition.

Adoption Now are actively recruiting potential adopters who are willing to consider opening their hearts and homes to these children.

Karen Barrick, head of service at Adoption Now, said: “Every one of the children we have waiting for adoption is different, each with their own unique and wonderful personalities, but what they all share is a difficult start in life and the need for a loving family who can give them the opportunities they need to thrive.

"So if you feel you could care for one or more of our children please talk to us because together we can make a positive difference to a child’s life.”
