Detectives have released CCTV of two people they want to speak to after the outside of a flat was set alight in Moston.

At around 4.20am on Sunday, August 5, someone started two fires underneath some wooden pallets and in a bin outside a flat on Hartley Street.

They then fled the scene as the fire began to take hold.

Thankfully no one was injured but damage was caused to the outside and inside of the building.

The heat also damaged the back of neighbouring properties on Pym Street.

Officers investigating have released CCTV footage of two people they want to speak to as part of their enquiries.

Detective Constable Sarah Wright, from North Manchester CID, said: “We are trying to identify the man and the woman in the footage.

“The couple were quite distinctive as the woman was pushing a bicycle while the pair also had a dog with them.

“Not many people were likely to have been around at the time of the arson but I think someone might have spotted these people.

“If you do recognise them, or it is you in the CCTV, please contact us as soon as possible.

“Although no one was injured, this reckless act could have quite easily taken innocent lives and we must find those responsible.”

Anyone with any information should call CID on 0161 856 1146 quoting incident number 570 of 5 August 2018.

Alternatively, information can be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
