Santa Dash bonanza as £20k is raised

Ho ho ho… the delighted organisers of Saddleworth’s blockbusting Santa Dash reckon they have nudged a remarkable £20,000 in the funds raised this year.

The proud Saddleworth Round Table managed to pull off the biggest Santa Dash yet in Uppermill last weekend.

Their 30-plus strong team of volunteers went large this year, with the spectacle of nearly 2,000 Santas flooding the picturesque Saddleworth streets.

And an added bonus was big cheques reserved for many teams who submitted to enter the dash in 2023.

The promise of a team meant every entrant for that team had half the ticket price gifted back to the club they represented.

This resulted in seven teams receiving valuable funds for their clubs.

Before the day was over, Round Table had donated over £3,000 back to the community.

And Oldham Foodbank, who came to the event, received a further £3,100 for their Christmas appeal - funds absolutely vital, especially at this time of year.

The leader of the dash event, Andy Rothwell, said: "We have been blown away by the positive feedback received for the event, but it wouldn't be possible without the Table volunteers and all the marshals who put forward their time to make the event run smoothly.

“The advance help from our sponsors Robert Scott and Greene's Bistro is invaluable and allowed the team to invest on making the event bigger and better with every passing year.

"We are contacted on a weekly basis for people / organisations in need of our support and it's important to us that if you need help and are struggling to find it elsewhere, then come and speak with the team."

This year's charity support officer is Ryan Smith who will be happy to take your requests.

Saddleworth Round Table meet monthly, with the next meeting taking place in January.
