SWAN LAKE, Lowry, Salford, to Saturday
SWAN Lake is undoubtedly one of ballet’s greatest love stories - and Birmingham Royal Ballet’s veteran production is rightly judged to be one of the owrld’s best.
The company started a new, 51-date tour of the UK and Japan in Salford.
Opulent, grand and extremely entertaining, the production earned rapturous applause from the audience throughout. Wonderful gothic sets provided a perfect backdrop to one of the greatest, and favourite, classical works. This company offers a perfect potion of romance, beauty and elegance.
Trinidad-born Celine Gittens starred as both Odette and her evil counterpart Odile. She was joined by Tyrone Singleton - a pairing that made history in Swan Lake in 2012 as the first mixed-race leads in British ballet.
Gittens is both intriguing and beguiling as Odette, while Singleton is a chiselled and brooding Prince Siegfried, offering incredible energy in the great third act.
BRB are renowned for their international standard of performances and this one doesn’t disappoint even after 35 years.
A must see for ballet fans - even the many who have seen it before
