Date published: 24 November 2017

Chadderton Park Community Sports Clubs won the Club of the Year award at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards at the Point, Emirates Old Trafford.

Former Chairman Frank Nolan said: “We have been in this position a few times over the years, but this is the first win (of this award) we have had and it is a fantastic feeling."

With more than 1,000 members and over 150 qualified coaches, Chadderton Park Sports Club has football, netball and rounders teams and recently gained the Queen’s Award for voluntary service to the community.

It is the North-West hub for coaching cerebral palsy football, runs a successful over-35s league and has recently set up the Chaddy Park Steppers.

The event, which was sponsored by William Hare, celebrates the outstanding commitment and achievements made in physical activity and sport across the Greater Manchester area over the past 12 months, and was attended by around 550 guests.

This year’s awards were hosted by Chelsea Norris of BBC Radio Manchester, who broadcast live from the event.

Former Manchester United defender was the night’s guest speaker and said: “Volunteers and coaches are so important not just for an event or training session but also in people’s lives.

“They have the power to make a difference and I’m proud to be part of this year’s Greater Manchester Sports Awards.”

GreaterSport CEO Yvonne Harrison said: “Nights like tonight are so important to show how sport and physical activity changes lives in our communities.

It gives us the opportunity to celebrate those who achieve and sacrifice so much, and can often be overlooked. All of our finalists are an inspiration to people in their communities and inspire others to follow in their footsteps often without realising.”

There were eight awards overall, all of which contained a finalist from each of the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.
