It’s been the ultimate challenge for any aspiring boxer or fighter, and on Saturday, March 24, in Oldham, 18 contestants will find out if they will be declared a wimp or a warrior!

Wimp-2-Warrior is a worldwide organisation which hosts gruelling competitions for men and women who reckon they can transform their lives, and their fighting ability.

Martial arts novices are invited to take part in a tough six-month-long structured Mixed Martial Arts training programme.

Conducting the training are two MMA coaches, a boxing coach, a Brazilian Ju Jitsu coach, two strength and conditioning coaches, a full-time nutritionist and a sports psychologist.

The 18-strong army of competitors were visited by world UFC superstar Conor McGregor’s head coach John Kavanagh last weekend, ahead of finals night at the Oldham Sports Centre on March 24.

The 18 finalists – who will compete at the Oldham Sports Centre in front of a packed 1,800-strong crowd – include a handful from Oldham.

Coach Derrick Cullen, from the Full Contact Performance Centre in Castleton, where the contestants have been training, can’t wait for fight night on Saturday week.

He said: “It’s been really tough for the Wimp-2-Warrior contestants.

“They started their journey 22 weeks ago as total beginners, and have since embarked on a real mission, training five days a week in fully professional surroundings.

“We started off with more than 30 who signed up, but that number is down to 18 now.

“It’s going to be a brilliant night at the Sports Centre.

“There are 12 bouts altogether, and tickets have been flying out.”

There are still a few tickets available to purchase on the door on the night, priced from £30 upwards.

Doors open at 6pm.
