League leaders Avro took a huge leap towards lifting the Manchester Football League Premier Division title after pummelling Manchester Gregorians 5-0 at the Vestacare Stadium.

Goals from debutant Danny Hudson, Daryl Weston, Louis Potts, Chris Howell and Mike Stockdale ensured the Blues ran out deserved winners.

The victory means James Hampson and Lee O’Brien’s side remain unbeaten and are now just 11 points away from lifting the trophy.

Goals from Kion Pryce and Scott Owen secured a crucial 2-1 triumph for Springhead over Hindsford at St John Lees Street.

Springhead remain fifth in the MFL Premier Division table.

Fourth-placed Royton Town’s clash at Stockport Georgians was abandoned due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Yellows are next in action when they travel to Hindsford this Saturday (2pm).

Elsewhere, Chadderton’s game with Alsager Town was abandoned on 68 minutes after a blizzard severely hindered visibility at the ARK Fleetech Stadium.

At the time of abandonment, the score was 1-1 as Alsager equalised just five minutes before the match officials called the players in.

However, David Fish’s side are back in action when they host Stockport Town on Thursday night (March 22) in the Hallmark Security First Division. Kick-off is at 7:45pm.

Mossley suffered another postponement - the Lilywhites’ showdown with Brighouse Town was shelved due to a waterlogged pitch at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

Mossley host promotion chasing Scarborough Athletic in the Evo-Stik North tonight (Tuesday). Kick-off is at 7:45pm providing the Seel Park pitch is deemed playable.

Finally, Jamie McCarthy’s double earned Oldham Hulmeians a valuable 2-2 draw at Old Blackburnians A.

The Maroons remain top of the Lancashire Amateur League Third Division table, eight points above second-placed Radcliffe Town Reserves.

Mark Hurst’s side are now six wins away from securing the title - a fine achievement to say the 90-year-old club almost went out of existence last summer.
