Gearing up for the X-Manc Cyclocross with Food and Beer

Date published: 30 July 2018

Fresh from the news of Geraint Thomas's heroic victory in the Tour de France, cyclists much closer to home are being encouraged to get stuck into the X-Manc Cyclocross with Food and Beer event, which takes place on September 1.

X-Manc Cyclocross is an all-for-charity cycling race with a mini food, beer and live music festival organised by Manchester-based charitable organisation Tour de Manc.

The event offers cyclocross riders an opportunity to tune up their kit and test their fitness and form prior to the first League race of the 2018-19 season, as well as provides spectators a mint experience watching the fun race of mud, sweat and gears while enjoying local Manc food, beer and live music.

In parallel with the cyclocross race, there is also an Every-Manc ride for disabled riders.

Held at Bowlee Country Park in Middleton on September 1 with a carefully designed multi-terrain course, X-Manc welcomes both experienced cyclocross riders and newbies willing to give cyclocross a go, with eight different categories for youth from under 12 years of age to adults and veteran riders.

Prizes will be given to category winners, together with a #BeeManc prize for the racer showing off the strength and community spirit of Manchester with their drive and determination in tackling the race.

For non-riders after a fun day out with their friends and family, X-Manc offers a mini festival with hot and cold food, a range of award-nominated beers from Brightside Brewery - from Belgian-styled beer to IPA and lager, together with live music from local band ‘The Capitals’ and a DJ.

The event promises to be bursting with fun, challenge and Mancunian spirit.

Tony Rubins, one of the organisers, said: “We have no employees and everyone here volunteers including myself.

"This allows us to raise surpluses directly from the income we generate and we give every penny to our registered headline charities.

Tour de Manc’s headline sponsor for 2018 is David Lloyd Manchester North Club – a new venue in David Lloyd’s national network of clubs.

Ian Shoreman, its General Manager, said: “We are thrilled to be hosts and main sponsors for this fantastic event. This event ticks all the boxes for us as a club.

"It brings together cyclists of all abilities, young and old, to challenge themselves and their fitness.”

Online prices for racers range from £3 to £15 plus a £3 charity levy depending on race category and age.

Entry for spectators is free with a small car park charge applied (#all4charity).
